Coronary Angiography

Coronary angiography is a medical procedure used to visualize the blood vessels of the heart, particularly the coronary arteries. The procedure typically involves inserting a thin, flexible tube, known as a catheter, into a blood vessel, usually located in the arm or groin, and guiding it to the heart with the assistance of X-ray imaging.

This imaging test enables doctors to evaluate the heart's blood supply and identify any blockages, narrowing, or other abnormalities in the coronary arteries. Such problems can lead to heart disease, angina (chest pain), or even a heart attack.

Coronary angiography is often used to guide treatment decisions, such as whether a patient may need stents, angioplasty, or coronary artery bypass surgery to improve blood flow to the heart.
